Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about our organization.

The Syndemic model recognizes that chronic diseases do not occur in isolation. The NCD Syndemic is the harmful clustering and interaction of three core issues in our community: Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), and Depression, all of which are fueled by poverty and economic instability. NiaNexa tackles all three simultaneously, alongside economic empowerment.

Most CBOs focus on treating a single disease. NiaNexa is unique because we focus on integration. Our model links clinical care (health literacy, medication access) with Sustainable Livelihood Programs (e.g., micro-enterprise training). Our belief is that better financial security directly leads to improved health adherence, thus Securing Life holistically.

Financial instability is a primary barrier to NCD management. It leads to stress (fueling hypertension and depression) and prevents access to required medication and quality nutrition. By creating income security, we are providing a foundation that allows health programs to be successful and sustainable for the long term.

NiaNexa CBO was founded by Stephen Omolo, who leveraged his previous experience as a Project Manager for Action For Indigenous Children With Diabetes (AFICWD) in Kajiado County. His goal was to expand the focus from Type 1 Diabetes support to a broader, integrated model addressing the NCD Syndemic.
